GOLD GOLD GOLD!!!

I ♥ Sidney Crosby!! Actually I am certain the entire Canadian population is in love with this young man right now.

 (credits: google images)

Okay, this is not the most attractive photo, but he's our hero!!

I was playing around with Mr. W's cellphone this weekend and found some photos from the past summer and last summer when I was in Taiwan! I miss those times....

Some old lady I snapped a photo of in Taiwan....I think her outfit was what caught my attention....

Mr. W and I with Lucky this summer...she's doesn't belong to us but to
a family member. Lucky's such a sweet dog! (and loves us more when she gets her treats!)

Outfit from last night or of the day...:

OOTD: sporting the dress I ordered from Gmarket and the star cluster necklace

Olympics Finale

WOW, what a great finish for the Canadians!! Only two more gold medals to be won, so Canada definitely has the most gold medal finishes in the 2010 Olympics. This is definitely one of the many moments to be a proud Canadian!

What a great finish for JJ Anderson's 14 year career!! Did anyone catch the men's parallel giant slalom event where JJ went from 20th place to 10th place and then finally to gold? (I didn't *tear* but I was celebrating my own victorious win along with 1300 other candidates at a grand dinner).

I'm going to try and catch the men's gold match in ice hockey tomorrow! All fellow Canadians please cheer your hearts out tomorrow when our athletes duke it out with our neighbours in BC!

Chinese New Years and Jewelry Haul

I've been lazy and avoided blogging! Actually I've been swamped with work so blogging has been on the back burner lately..... at least I am blogging once a week! =P

Anyway here is my haul from Steph of Julu Jewelry:

Always the immaculate wrapper!! I love all the candy she included, of which I gobbled all up the next day! SO YUMMY! Steph was also too kind and included the VS sparkling eyeshadow in Twinkled Pink for me to try! Unfortunately my plans to dress up for Vday and to test out the eyeshadow failed because I ended up staying at home for CNY (therefore I decided to slob it down for the day =P)

I ordered the Golden Bow Earrings with Hearts and the Star Bit Clusters necklace. When I first saw the golden bow earrings I just fell in love with them!! I knew I had to have them so I made sure Steph reserved them for me. To be honest, I also had the deep sea blue hearts earrings in the shopping cart as well, but Mr. W said I was too greedy and should let some other girl out there be lucky for once... (aka I need to exercise some self restraint -__-;;), so in the end I had to let the other pair go... but now I am kicking myself because it looks like it's been sold! I've been wearing these almost every day because they are 14K filled wires and have not had any allergic reactions.

(testing out my internal 1.3MP camera on GD580 /lollipop cellphone.....not bad quality!)

I've also been interchanging my star bit clusters necklace with the small heart necklace (also from Julu Jewelry) every day causing Mr. W to be quite miffed since I've been neglecting the heart necklace he got for me from Swarovski -haha!!. Thanks Steph! (Don't worry, I take full responsibility for the petty arguments between Mr.W and I :p)

This is the montage of all the meat I had on chinese new years. My mouth is watering right now writing this post!!

Happy Friday!!

Taiwanese Makeup Artist 古小偉Book Is Out!

This is 古小偉老師's 3rd book out and inside are really good tips and tutorials on makeup. I NEED TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS!!! Original photos are from Ayaka's blog.

Below are some excerpts from his book (credits to Ayaka):

If you want translations for some of these, please let me know. I have yet to try these tips but from the looks of it, it looks pretty simple!  But 古小偉 usually does not create complex looks; even though the look is simple, it also turns out to be amazing.

I've received my small haul from Steph of Julu Jewelry!! Upcoming post will feature the goodies ^___^

Have a happy Wednesday! Hump day is over!

P.S. I've changed my header! I lavvvv my Danbo ^^;;

Lolli-Lollipopppp

I've been lemming the icecream phone for the LONGEST time and then suddenly the Lollipop gets released! I just had to (well not had to but let's just say the resistance was futile) get my hands on one.

(source: various google photos)
From top to bottom, left to right (all LG phones): KF350 (ice cream), GD580 (Lollipop), GW300, BL20

Out of all these phones, I ended picking up today....

The GD580 aka the Lollipop! (mhmm I guess it's not much of a given the post title... =__=;;).

I cannot give a detail review yet because I haven't used it... much. I've played around with it for a good 4 hours. I'll probably only post up any issues I have with the phone since there are plenty of specifications/features review and photos out there. I'm not sure how much I like LG phones because I know they're slower and not as reliable in terms of providing reception. As you can see my previous phones were ALL Sony Ericssons. My "current" phone prior to the GD580 was the G900 which I'm still going to use since it's a smart phone and so sleek and handy, but I couldn't resist the temptation of sporting such a cute pink phone!

I also love the LED lights and how if you want to mute your phone from a phonecall, simply flip the phone over! Surprising, the camera provides good quality photos (at least on the screen) for 3MP camera. The camera tends to take more yellow photos but nothing that the white balance function cannot fix. Even the 1.3MP internal camera appears to be of decent quality.

Here is a video of Big Bang playing with the selca function. I still cannot figure out how to set the function settings for the internal camera so that it changes the faces (kind of like Macbook's photo booth) as seen in the Big Bang video. Maybe it's only available on the Korean Cyon phone version? Does anyone with a Lollipop know how to use this function?

Are you currently thinking of switching to a different phone? If so, which one?

Domokun and Perfume love......

I've been so busy that I did not have time to post up photos of the goodies I won from Ann&Mich's giveaway!

Annie and Michelle are identical twins from Singapore. They sell really cute and funky items imported from Korea and Japan which I think is fabulous.

The goodies came in a hello kitty ziplock bag... how adorable is that!!

The Domokun camera case (which has so many multipupose functions)... as you can see I placed my cellphone inside because well... I'm using my camera to take the photos! The sewing craftmanship is impeccable and something that I can NEVER replicate (unless I become a master with glue!). By the way, my comments are in no way influenced by it's adorableness... okay maybe just a little!

It also comes in a variety of colors!! It's so cute and matching for a couple ^___^

I also received the Perfume Love square bottle necklace. It's such a neat little trinket to wear around your neck! And the touch of rose emitting from the bottle is a nice touch. It's very romantic and baroque style.

Last weekend my friends and I went to Zen, the Japanese Restaurant. The sushi was pretty good but I still think Mi Ne is the best! Too bad it's so far....

Food:  ★★★★☆/★★★★★
The sushi and sashimi were fresh but not the best I've eaten, but I give it more credibility because it's actually made by Japanese people unlike other japanese sushi restaurants in the city ... O___O

Atmosphere: ★★★★☆/★★★★★
I like! It's tiny overall but you can feel the closeness of the people around you so carrying conversations is not an issue. You're also far enough from other tables that neighboring conversations will not impede your own.

Service: ★★★★★/★★★★★
Great service and so attentive.  Our waitress (and the owner) even took time to teach us japanese!

Pricing: ★★★★☆/★★★★★
I think the prices are competitive (approximately $30/person depending on what you order)

THIS WAS SO GOOD.... It's black sesame icecream with a strawberry pocky stick on the side... SO DELISH!!!

Zen is located at the major intersections of Brimley and Eglinton, if anyone in Toronto is interested!

Winterlicious in 2009 (Photo heavy!)

This year for Winterlicious, Mr.W and I visited two restaurants; both were of Italian cuisine, had similar menus but gave drastic food experiences.

Winterlicious is a culinary restaurant program that is held across the city in some the top restaurants

This year Winterlicious was held in 130 of the city's top restaurants offered fixed price pre-set lunch and dinner menus. For example, some restaurants offer a three course lunch anywhere from $15.00 - $25.00 and three course dinner menu from $20.00 - 35.00.    There is tax and gratuity on top of that of course and beverages are not included, but usually this meal would cost much more than that.

Mr.W and I visited Pallucci and Joe Maggiano this Winterlicious. Both offered a $25 three course dinner meal.  I had a wonderful time at Pallucci but I cannot say the same for Joe Maggiano Steakhouse....

Pallucci:
 Food: ★★★★☆/★★★★★

The usual bread with balsmic vinegar - this was tasty! I usually don't like my bread with vinegar

This is fresh scallop in a bed of various vegetables. This is not actually on the menu but Mr.W likes his share of seafood.....the scallops were really fresh and cooked to perfection - neither raw or undercooked.

Roasted Butternut Squash & Pear Puree
This is Pallucci's famous soup dish that they've won an award for, so I HAD to try it! It was sweet tasting (because of the pears) but so heart warming because I love butternut squash :p It wasn't so thick that the texture put me off either.

Hot Italian Sausage
roasted with garlic, extra virgin olive oil and salsa fresca
This was Mr. W's appetizer, which I did not enjoy because the sausage was too spicy! But I can see why some people would love this because it would simply give you a heartburn in a yummy way.

 Maple Glazed Atlantic Salmon
served with roasted potato and fresh daily vegetables
All I can say is that the salmon was very succulent and the maple was a nice tough since it added a ting to the savory taste. Not the best that I've tried but was well done for the price of the dinner. Though it's definitely not filling enough for someone with a big appetite.

Steak Frites AAA Striploin of Beef
served with Yukon gold frites, fresh broccoli and a peppercorn demi glaze
Mr. W had the steak, which I thought was a tad overcooked even though he asked for medium rare. But I thought the frites were just scrumptious. I think Pallucci made it themselves, and reminded me of Lays Ruffle Chips.... mhmmmm

Biscotti
with fresh crème anglaise and fresh daily berries
So good!! It was so savory and hard (good thing because you don't want biscotti to be too chewy!)

 Tartuffo
I preferred my Biscotti to the chocolate icecream with raspberry filling. Actually it was not as creamy as icecream... more like frozen yogurt. Though the raspberry filling was very tasty!

Atmosphere: ★★★★☆/★★★★★
I loved the atmosphere! The server allowed me to choose where I wanted to sit and I chose the two love seats that were sounded with pillows. It was so comfy! The only thing I did not like was that the interior walls of the restaurant was red.

Service: ★★★★☆/★★★★★
Great service and the servers we had were courteous and so polite. Even when a woman whipped her purse too quickly and broke some wine glasses they told her it was all right!

Pricing: ★★★★☆/★★★★★
Not bad for $25!

Joe Maggiano Steakhouse:

Food: ★★★☆☆/★★★★★

Bread with virgin oil
I have to say that though it was good, it was wayyyy too oily!! You can definitely not pick up the bread with hands otherwise oil will drip EVERYWHERE.

Golden Maple Butternut Squash Soup (vegetarian)
Slow roasted butternut squash pureed with Quebec maple syrup & a touch of cream
Similar to the Butternut squash and pear puree at Pallucci that it's slightly sweet, but this tasted like it was not brewed long enough because the maple syrup was too strong and haven't absorbed fully into the butternut squash. I neither hated nor loved it.

White Wine Mussels
Fresh P.E.I. mussels steamed in the shell then sautéed in a light white wine basil sauce
This was a good dish! The mussels were fresh and for an appetizer they gave a good amount that made you wishing for more.

Black Pepper Rainbow Trout
Seared Rainbow trout filet crusted with fine herbs and black pepper, topped with a light honey pecan glace. Served with seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes
 I. WAS.SO.DISAPPOINTED. I think this was the driest trout I've ever tried. Swallowing it down took a lot of effort and there was hardly any vegetables. Maybe it was a bad night for the Chef...

Lobster Tail and Shrimp Arrabiata
Lobster tail & jumbo black tiger shrimp, sautéed onions and hot pepper in a spicy tomato sauce served over pasta
This sounded so fancy but it's almost like tomato pasta! The lobster tail was super dry thereby making it too chewy and the entire seafood taste was covered by the overly bearing spicy tomato sauce. The only thing that I can give credit to is the jumbo shrimp that was still fresh tasting (but not really that jumbo!)

Truffle Royal
Topped with chocolate sauce
If I had another chance I would have chosen the panna cotta....It was too sweet and so flakey!

Cheesecake
Creamy and rich, topped with strawberry coulis
Didn't like or dislike it, but indifference is not necessarily a good thing....

 Atmosphere: ★★★☆☆/★★★★★
The atmosphere... sucked. Our table was super tiny and was situated right next to the bar! It's not romantic at all (guys do not take your SOs there for special occasions....). I guess it also did not help that it was superbowl night so there were avid fans shouting, drinking beer and eating their hot dogs.

Service: ★★★☆☆/★★★★★
The server was polite and provided the typical service, but nothing over the top. It also felt like they were rushing us out of there even though there were not much customers sitting in our area.... they did not even ask Mr.W and I if we wanted coffee/tea after our dessert and just hurriedly to pass us our bill!

Pricing: ★★★☆☆/★★★★★
I don't think I would pay $25 for the food here... I mean, this is a steakhouse, and there was no steak on the menu for Winterlicious?!!

Gmarket Haul and February Giveaways

I finally have time to post my Gmarket haul! I made an order in the last week of January but shipping was slower this time around because some of the sellers were a little bit slow to domestically deliver the items. So during that period I stalked my EMS tracking # RELIGIOUSLY. The F5 button was my favorite key! I literally refreshed the page 10 times in an hour.

I purchased three dresses, a pair of shoes and a bag. The shipping surprised me because it cost almost the same as my last purchase....

 My favorite mascot!! =P
Again, the packages came in a massive box! I guess it keeps the items from getting crushed and damaged. The items were each packaged neatly in their own thick plastic wrappings (the ones where you may have a hard time pulling apart without a pair of scissors).

 Items unwrapped!

To be honest, the quality of the purse/bag disappointed me. It felt so flimsy and the inside lining was made of something slightly thicker than wrapping paper. When you place things inside it, it makes crackling/wrapping paper sounds! (go crinkle some wrapping paper and you get the idea....). The seller is 오렌지노블 and have appeared to no longer ship internationally or currently have none in stock. Also the colors of the stock photos are slightly deceptive since the purse I ordered was suppose to be off white/ivory with a tint of peach, however the one that arrived was more gold.

I love these shoes! They're made of suede and attract dust particles very easily (you can tell from the photo as well) but I think they're very high quality and the heels feel very sturdy. The only thing that irks me is the buckles. They're not the normal buckle down ones but kind of resemble paper clips where you hook one end onto another. It's difficult to explain but I find that many asian manufacturers use these types of "buckles" for their shoes... I guess it's more cost efficient?! But there's a risk that they can "unbuckle" more easily.

The seller is ★블루베리★ and has tons of other great shoes! I'm definitely going to check them out again for heels.

I've only had the chance to wear one of the dresses I purchased and I don't have actual photos so I am going to use stock photos from Gmarket.

Out of all the dresses I purchased, I am most pleased with this one... it also resembles the stock photo the most =P I haven't purchased from this seller before (★캣츠걸★) but I think the sizes run small! I normally wear small but I purchased the medium size and still feel/look fat in it! It's veryyyyy tight fitting but the quality's great. It doesn't look cheap like some clothing from Asia and is actually made in Korea! (I actually purchased some items from Gmarket from sellers in Korea that had items made in China!) Looking at the ratings for this seller, their items may be a hit and miss as some people were disatisfied with their purchases, however I'm going to purchase from them again since they have really cute and fashionable dresses!

I purchased these two dresses from the same seller and was slightly disappointed with the quality.  The material was still decent but it could have been better for the prices I've paid. The beads on the white top were coming lose and paint were coming off. Also the dresses had a funky odour to them when I first took them out of the packaging. This seller (디데이) definitely purchases their dresses from different manufacturers because the dresses were from different brands. They offer many other styles of dresses which are also very cute, but I would caution on the quality of the dresses.

Overall, this Gmarket haul drastically differ from my other order as there were no misunderstanding. Service was efficient!... and writing this review makes my finger itch to go on the site again... my poor wallet!
